An Unexpected Yet Welcomed Change

Initially Gap23 was set for Nicaragua but the Lord had other plans. Due to boarder complications we were unable to go to Nicaragua and had to quickly pivot. We are now living in a church in Costa Rica! Never would I think I would be living on the floors of a church in Costa Rica.

The short time we have spent here has been unexpected but all in the best ways. 14 of us have been sleeping in the same room on the tile floor and I wouldn’t want it any other way. we share meals and stories sitting crisscross on the same floor. We worship and love and laugh on that floor. We play cards, drink coffee/tea and enjoy each other.

When we aren’t on the chilly tile floor, you can find us making cement for a sidewalk or helping weld to make a roof or repainting the church or building a wall. The churches handy man, Huego, has demonstrated great patience as we learn how to do his job. This ministry looks a little different because our ministry is where we live. We sleep, eat, and serve in the same location. This has given us the chance to form bonds with the hospitable host family, talented cooks, patient Huego, and with eachother.

I see such servant hearts of these locals. While we are here to serve them, they are also serving us. It is so beautiful so able to serve one another in different ways but it is all through the Lord.

We get the chance to minister to people in town and those walking by the church. An unexpected gift is that we get to minister to each other.

This ministry has taught me to hold my hands open and invest in the community around me
